Spanish artists Miquel Barceló, Cristina Iglesias, and Mexican Javier Marín will create the artistic proposal for the Glory façade, which is beginning construction at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, ??a masterpiece of modernism that is one of the most visited monuments in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia on Tuesday, the Board of Trustees of the Construction Board has selected this trio of artists to submit a proposal for the design of what will be the main entrance to the Catholic church designed by the Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926), one of the geniuses of modernism. The creations of Barceló, Iglesias, and Marín will be used by the board of trustees to select the artist or artists who will ultimately execute the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Glory Façade is the last major phase of the basilica’s construction, which is expected to be completed within ten years, excluding the decorative elements. Currently, construction efforts are focused on the Jesus Tower, the tallest in the Sagrada Familia, which will feature a viewing cross at the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This tower is expected to be completed by the end of this year for inauguration in June 2026, coinciding with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death. In parallel, the Sagrada Familia began this year the vertical construction of the Glory Façade, the main entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the moment, only the foundations of the Glory Façade are in place, upon which four towers will rise, along with the remaining architectural elements, over the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Extensive decoration for the façade, featuring around one hundred figures, is planned for the future. The basilica began its construction in 1882, and its construction is financed by donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The part that Gaudí himself built was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. Barceló is a renowned painter of styles such as Neo-Expressionism, with works in prominent museums and galleries in Europe and America, while Iglesias is a sculptor known for her installations, and Marín stands out for her sculptural work on the human figure and in the decorative arts.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
